“True Blood” actress Anna Camp (From Black) has joined the cast of Peacock’s new coming-of-age series “Hysteria!,” which explores America’s dark history of mass hysteria through the shocking tale of teenage Satanic Panic.
In the series, “a beloved varsity quarterback who disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s. “A struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.”
Camp will play the role of “Tracy Whitehead, a crusading Midwestern mother who has been the laughingstock of her community for years due to her extreme religious beliefs. However, after a string of occult crimes and disturbances, she becomes a dangerous and unlikely leader of her small town.”
Deadline reports that Camp joins previously announced cast members Julie Bowen, Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, and Nikki Hahn. Matthew Scott Kane created the series.
UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, will produce the series. Matthew Scott Kane serves as writer and executive producer. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Dungeons & Dragons, Game Night) will executive produce and direct. Chris Bender and Jake Weiner (Under the Silver Lake)will executive produce for Good Fear.
“This nail-biting thriller dives into a mass moral panic and all the fears, desires, anger, and dread that led to these dark days,” Beatrice Springborn, President, UCP has stated. “Matthew’s script is original, intriguing and perfectly captures the frenetic energy of the Satanic Panic. We can’t wait for audiences to experience the show on Peacock.”
