The horror-thriller Nefarious is getting rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, including from us. After watching it, I made it my mission to talk with both of the film’s stars, Sean Patrick Flanery and Jordan Belfi, who plays the role of Dr. James Martin, the psychiatrist responsible for deciding if the demon Nefarious truly possesses Flanery’s character Edward or if it’s a clever ruse.
In the film, “On the day of his scheduled execution, a convicted serial killer (Flanery) gets a last-minute, court-ordered psychiatric evaluation. The killer astonishes visiting psychiatrist Dr. James Martin (Belfi) by insisting that instead of trying to avoid his execution, he is, in fact, a demon—Nefarious—who wants his execution to go forward.
During my interview with Belfi, who you’ll recognize as a series regular on “Entourage,” we talked about some of the dark subjects in the film, including the death penalty and abortion, as well as the emotional challenges of making a film like this. Belfi even tells me what he sacrificed to make the film, which was a lot!
Jordan Belfi did a fantastic job with his role. And personally, I can’t wait to see what he does next! Be sure to check out Nefarious now in theaters.
