Writer-director-producer Dustin Ferguson is back with his latest film, the remake of the 1967’s Spider Baby (The Maddest Story Ever Told). We recently got the exclusive on the first stills and a look behind the scenes, which you can see here.

This weekend, Ferguson let us know that actor Robert Mukes has now joined the cast and will play the role of “The Storyteller.” Mukes is a horror regular, appearing in films like House of 1000 Corpses, Bone Tomahawk and series like “Criminal Minds,” Westworld,” “Justified,” and “Weeds.”

Mukes joins previously announced cast members Brinke Stevens, Beverly Washburn, Peter Stickles, Taci Burr, Crystal Loverro, Jennifer Moriarty, and Ron Chaney, grandson son of the legendary actor Lon Chaney Jr. Jack Hill, who directed the original, serves as executive producer for Ferguson’s film.

The original film, directed by Jack Hill, centers on a caretaker who devotes himself to three demented siblings after their father’s death.

“In the web of creative possibilities, I embrace the honor of directing the Spider Baby remake. With unwavering reverence for the source material, I tread the delicate thread of faithfulness, carefully weaving thrilling new elements. As we spin a captivating web of nostalgia and innovation, prepare to witness the birth of a modern mad tale, where tradition dances with excitement, and the legacy of Spider Baby finds new life in every electrifying frame.” Director Dustin Ferguson told us.

If you haven’t seen the original, you should. You can watch it now on Prime Video, AMC+, Screambox, Roku, VUDU, Tubi, or on Fandor.
