Between 1998 and 2005, there was a serial killer at work, targeting the elderly women of Mexico City and claiming over 40 victims. Netflix’s new true crime documentary The Lady of Silence: The Mataviejitas Murders debuts this month, revealing the twisted story and an unlikely suspect.
The crimes caused a never-before-seen outrage from the public, demanding justice. When the killer was finally caught, their identity was as shocking as the crimes themselves. The killer was none other than former wrestler Juana Barraza, a rare female serial killer (only 15% of all serial killers are female).
The documentary is directed by María José Cuevas and features a recreation of the timeline and interviews with people involved with the case, such as law officials, surviving victims, experts, and more.
The gripping documentary The Lady of Silence: The Mataviejitas Murders premieres on Netflix on Thursday, July 27, 2023.
