Today, Prime Video’s new series “Horror of Dolores Roach” makes its premiere, and trust me, you want to check it out.
The series not only has killer episodes but also features a killer soundtrack with a new original song, ‘Oh, Dolores‘ from Cyndi Lauper (co-written by Ben Hopkins), known for her hit songs like ‘Time After Time.’ The iconic songstress also has a recurring role in the series as a P.I. investigating missing people.
Starring Justina Machado, “The Horror of Dolores Roach” is a contemporary Sweeney Todd-inspired tale of love, betrayal, weed, cannibalism, and survival of the fittest. It is based on both the play and the hit Spotify podcast series of the same name by creator Aaron Mark who we recently interviewed about the series.
In the series, Dolores Roach (Justina Machado) is released after an unjust 16-year prison sentence, and she returns to a gentrified Washington Heights. Dolores reunites with an old stoner friend, Luis (Alejandro Hernandez), who lets her live and work as a masseuse in the basement under his empanada shop. When the promise of her newfound stability is quickly threatened, “Magic Hands” Dolores is driven to shocking extremes to survive.
The series also stars Justina Machado, Alejandro Hernandez, Kita Updike, and K. Todd Freeman.
Dara Resnik also executive produces alongside Daphne Rubin-Vega; Jason Blum, Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold, and Chris Dickie for Blumhouse Television; Dawn Ostroff, Mimi O’Donnell, and Justin McGoldrick for Spotify; Gloria Calderón Kellett for GloNation Studios; and Roxann Dawson, who directed the pilot.
The eight-episode Amazon Original series, “The Horror of Dolores Roach,” premieres exclusively on Prime Video today (7/7).
