Emmy-winner Eddie Izzard is starring in the upcoming movie Doctor Jekyll from Hammer Studios, a new twist on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale that features a trans lead for the first time. The new poster, by Creepy Duck Design, has just debuted on Fangoria, giving us our first glimpse of Izzard as Doctor Nina Jekyll.
The movie centers on the reclusive Doctor Nina Jekyll, who finds friendship with her newly hired help, Rob, played by Scott Chambers. The two must work together to prevent Hyde from destroying her life.
Scott Chambers, Lindsay Duncan, Jonathan Hyde, and Simon Callow will also star. Joe Stephenson directs from the script by first-time writer Dan Kelly-Mulhern.
Stephenson produces along with Guy de Beaujeu (Journey’s End) and Liam Coutts (The Good Drug). Christian Angermayer (Army of Thieves) serves as Executive Producer.
“There’ve been over 100 cinematic adaptations of Stevenson’s novella, but there has never been a trans Dr. Jekyll. There seem to be some assumptions that because Nina is a trans character, we are somehow going to make it about gender. That is not the case; the themes of our film are true to the original work.” Director Joe Stephenson recently said to Fangoria.
