Today, creator-owned publisher DSTLRY announced “Blasfamous,” an insidious new horror-comedy comic series launching this December from Harvey Award-winning writer and artist Mirka Andolfo (Sweet Paprika, Mercy, Harley Quinn, Punchline).
Set in the glittering pop music industry, Blasfamous follows Clelia, the reigning global sensation in a world where pop stars have ascended to divinity off the back of worship from their masses of fans. While the spotlight brings unimaginable power to the angels and demons who manage these viral superstars, a mysterious newcomer begins to threaten the status quo, testing how far Clelia and her demonic agent Father Lev are willing to go to defend her reign.
Spinning out of her 5-page story “A Blessed Day” from DSTLRY’s debut release The Devil’s Cut, Blasfamous is a biting dissection of media idolization that expands on Andolfo’s trademark, boundary-pushing humor and style familiar to readers from international hits like Sweet Paprika and Mercy.
“With each of my series I love conjuring new fictions of fantasy and wonder wrapped around some of the hottest sociological issues we face in reality,” Andolfo explains. “Blasfamous picks apart what it means to worship—whether it’s a prophet or popstar. It’s also a new opportunity to draw some of the most lavish and exhilarating spectacles of my career, with an oversized canvas to make every page truly sing.”
Blasfamous #1 features two open-order covers by creator Mirka Andolfo, with variant covers to be revealed at a later date.
Blasfamous #1 is available now for pre-order and will be on sale at local comic shops and digitally via www.dstlry.co this December.
