From the brilliantly twisted mind of Guillermo del Toro comes a new take on the classic tale of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The new adaptation for Netflix is said to feature an all-star cast, with Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds, Alita: Battle Angel) being the most recent addition.

The news came via Collider that del Toro has confirmed the casting news, making a statement to the audience at the 10th-anniversary screening of Pacific Rim.

“I’m doing Frankenstein. We’re working on it. We start shooting in February, and it’s a movie I have been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein. I had an epiphany, and it’s basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10 years ago. Now I’m brave or crazy enough or something, and we’re gonna tackle it. It’s Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth, and we’re working on it.”

Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina), Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge), Mia Goth (X, Pearl), and Waltz are all fantastic actors. We look forward to learning more about their roles.

Collider also states that del Toro will reunite with frequent collaborator Alexandre Desplat who will compose the score. Desplat will also produce with another of his recurring partners, Gary Ungar.

Back in 2018, Guillermo del Toro took home four Academy awards for his film The Shape of Water, which was essentially his romanticized take on The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Could it be possible that he is building his own universe based on Universal’s classic monsters? We hope so. We’ll keep you posted.
