2021’s The Black Phone premiered to the pleasure of genre fans and critics alike. The announcement has now come that Universal and Blumhouse have revealed the release date for its sequel, Friday, June 27, 2025.
According to Variety, the studios describe the upcoming sequel as the “launch of a sinister new franchise.” No other information has, at this time, been revealed for The Black Phone 2.
The first film centers on “Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on ensuring that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.
Starring four-time Oscar® nominee Ethan Hawke, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and James Ransone, the film marks the feature debut of Mason Thames. The Black Phone is produced, directed, and co-written by Scott Derrickson, who also wrote and directed Sinister, which also starred Hawke. He’s also behind The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
Jason Blum will produce alongside C. Robert Cargill, Sherryl Clark, and Scott Dickerson. It will be executive-produced by Ryan Turek and Christopher H. Warner.
