Game Review: ‘Slender: The Arrival’

Ten years ago, the first official game based on the internet sensation Slender Man, Slender: The Arrival, was released, and YouTube was never the same again. Now, new and old players of the game can enjoy it with updated graphics and extra content with the new 10th-anniversary version of Slender: The Arrival.

Slender: The Arrival takes players to a mysterious forested area full of abandoned sites as Laura, a young woman searching for her friend Kate who has suddenly gone missing from her family home after her encounter with a mysterious Slender Man.

Slender: The Arrival‘s controls are simple and more likely the same as they were back when the game first came out, I’ll admit I’ve never played it before. I will say, that I have seen clips and pictures of the original, and the graphics in this version are way better, but the lighting needs work; no matter what I adjust my gamma and flashlight strength to, it’s always bright.

I know the sound is a big thing in Slender: The Arrival, especially if you’re wearing headphones, but the sound in this game could use an upgrade. The loud droning sound when you’re indoors is kind of annoying and walking on certain floors sounds like you’re walking in stiletto high heels on the concrete floor of an abandoned factory.

Slender: The Arrival‘s gameplay is pretty simple; you walk around, find notes that give you some lore, and try to progress with the story while trying to avoid being spotted/killed by the Slender Man or one of his proxies, depending on the level. I’ve felt that we’ve come a long way from these kinds of games and wished there was something added to it to help spice it up or make it a bit scarier.

Overall, Slender: The Arrival is OK. As I’ve said, I never really played the original before, but with all the hype it got years ago and ever since… I was expecting something more, but I’m not saying there’s nothing there for fans of the original.

On my scale of 1-10 Slender: The Arrival is a 6/10

Slender: The Arrival is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
