Fans of the series “The Vampire Diaries,” which ran from 2009 to 2017, will be heartbroken to learn that one of the series’ biggest heartthrobs, Ian Somerhalder, is leaving Hollywood behind for a simpler life, US Weekly is reporting.
A New Life:
The brooding Salvatore brothers might be a thing of the past for Somerhalder, who has officially traded in his acting scripts for pitchforks and farm fresh produce after moving to a sprawling farm outside Los Angeles, and he’s loving every minute of it.
“I love what I did for a really long time,” Ian Somerhalder recently shared with E! News alongside his wife, Nikki Reed, during an interview. “I love making films. I just did it for so long. We had an amazing run.” But instead of pursuing another blockbuster role, Somerhalder’s priorities have shifted towards building a legacy beyond the bright lights.
This move might come as a surprise to some fans, but Somerhalder previously hinted at his Hollywood exit when discussing the couple’s relocation to their idyllic farm. Surrounded by 18 furry and feathered family members, their new life revolves around the fields, not the red carpet.
“Walking through the farm with kids and dogs and family,” Somerhalder fondly described their daily routine. “Every stop, you’re pulling off of trees or off of bushes, pulling up out of the ground and feeding everyone as you’re moving through the farm.”
Beyond the idyllic walks and fresh food, Somerhalder embraces his new identity as a farmer. “We’re farm people; we produce most of our own food; I live in my cowboy boots,” he proudly told E! in November. This down-to-earth attitude reflects a conscious shift in priorities, where family, sustainability, and self-sufficiency reign supreme.
He’s Not Alone:
Somerhalder isn’t alone in his Hollywood exodus. Actors like Cameron Diaz and Rick Moranis also chose to step away from the limelight, prioritizing personal fulfillment over constant acclaim. For Somerhalder, this new chapter isn’t about turning his back on the industry but about carving his own path, one muddy bootprint at a time.
So, while we might not see him slaying vampires on our screens anymore, Somerhalder’s legacy will continue to blossom. He’s traded fangs for farm tools, scripts for soil samples, and red carpets for dusty fields. And in his eyes, that’s a trade well worth making.
