The chilling thrills of the hit game Until Dawn are coming to a screen near you in a new way. As the game gears up for its 10th anniversary, Sony has now made the announcement that a film adaptation of the popular horror video game is coming.
With horror maestro David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle Creation) at the helm, Until Dawn promises an R-rated love letter to the genre and will reveal a movie centered on a group of teenagers trapped in a terrifying nightmare.
In the game/movie, eight friends travel to a secluded cabin on a getaway, marking the anniversary of a local tragedy. What starts as a weekend of fun quickly descends into chaos as they’re hunted by a relentless psychopath.
The original script was penned by Blair Butler (The Invitation), with Gary Dauberman (IT and the upcoming remake of Salem’s Lot) currently refining it. Joining Sandberg in the producer’s chair are Dauberman himself, as well as Lotta Losten, Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan.
Until Dawn isn’t the only interactive horror experience finding a new life on the big screen. Supermassive Games, the company behind the game, is also responsible for the recent slasher video game The Quarry, further blurring the lines between gaming and cinema.
Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping ride as iconic video game moments translate into a chilling cinematic spectacle. There is no word yet when the movie will debut, but a look at the game’s trailer, which was released in 2015, will give you a taste of the horrors that are in store.
Gaming adaptations have been popular lately with “Twisted Metal” getting a second season. Gamers and horror fans can also look forward to the Iron Lung adaptation. What game would you like to see adapted?
