When it comes to genre comics and graphic novels, Storm King Comics is a leader. I mean, it is owned by John Carpenter and Sandy King. One of their latest offerings is the brutal graphic novel Long Haul, created by Cullen Bunn and Heath Amodio, with art by Andrea Mutti, Gigi Baldassini, and Valerio Alloro.
Long Haul centers on two brothers searching for their missing sister, Sarah. Their investigation leads them to “The Nine,” a chillingly efficient group of sociopaths behind the wheel. As they fight their way through this ghoulish gang and their protectors, the truth about Sarah’s fate grows ever more horrifying.
There is a truth to the story, which adds another layer of horror. Long Haul delves into the real-life horror of America’s missing: over 700 individuals swallowed by the vast highways, preyed upon by serial killers lurking in the shadows.
After reading the graphic novel, which I loved, I wanted to know more about the talented team behind it. Luckily, I had the pleasure of sitting down for an interview with its creators, Cullen Bunn, known for his work in comics like Wolverine and Deadpool, and his frequent writing partner Heath Amodio, behind “The Heathens” comic franchise. Watch as we discuss how the graphic novel came to be, its story, and so much more.
