Brilliant filmmaker Mike Flanagan, the mind behind chilling hits like Doctor Sleep and the creepy AF Netflix series “The Haunting of Hill House,” is set to terrify audiences with a brand new take on The Exorcist franchise.

This won’t be a retread of familiar territory. Flanagan’s film will be a wholly original story set within the established Exorcist universe. This means no connection to the recently released critically and viewer-hosted sequel The Exorcist: Believer.

Flanagan is no stranger to Blumhouse Productions. He previously directed critically acclaimed horror films like Oculus, Hush, and Ouija: Origin of Evil. Which were all under their banner, proving that the studio and director are a horror dream team.

Both Flanagan and Blumhouse founder Jason Blum expressed enthusiasm for the project. Flanagan sees it as a tribute to the film that inspired him to become a filmmaker, while Blum is eager to see Flanagan’s fresh vision unfold.

Flanagan states, “The Exorcist is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it is an honor to have the chance to try something fresh, bold, and terrifying within its universe. Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I’ve made some of my favorite pieces of work, only makes this more exciting.”

“Mike’s voice and vision are indispensable for horror fans and we are excited to welcome him back to Blumhouse. I immediately responded to Mike’s new take on the world of The Exorcist and can’t wait for audiences to experience it,” said Jason Blum, Founder and CEO, Blumhouse.

The original Exorcist remains a landmark in horror cinema. Flanagan’s new film has the potential to add a significant new chapter to the franchise’s legacy.

Flanagan’s impressive track record in horror speaks for itself. From the disturbing atmosphere of his adaptation of Gerald’s Game to the unsettling religious themes of “Midnight Mass,” he has a knack for creating deeply unsettling experiences. Horror fans can expect a terrifying and thought-provoking exploration of The Exorcist universe.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, the creative team assembled for this project promises a thrilling new take on demonic possession. One thing is for sure: with Flanagan at the helm, it’s gonna be good! Stay tuned for further updates as this exciting horror collaboration unfolds
