The cast continues to grow for the upcoming Dexter prequel series, “Dexter: Original Sin.” Last we reported, “Grey’s Anatomy” actor Patrick Dempsey had joined the cast. There’s now been an update with news coming that “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star Sarah Michelle Gellar has signed on to play the role of young Dexter’s boss at the Miami Metro Police Department.
“Dexter: Original Sin” stars Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter Morgan, initially portrayed by Michael C. Hall in the original series that first premiered in 2006. The prequel explores Dexter’s formative years in Miami, growing up in the early 1990s. It’s a time when he grapples with his dark urges while confiding in his father figure, Harry (Christan Slater). Harry, a homicide detective, instills Dexter’s infamous “Code” – a set of rules guiding him to target and eliminate those who escape the justice system.
This prequel follows the limited series “Dexter: New Blood,” which also saw Dexter and his son reunite. Clyde Phillips served as the showrunner for “New Blood,” which concluded with a shocking but fitting twist.
“Dexter: Original Sin” will premiere on Showtime in the US and Paramount+. Fans can now catch up on the original “Dexter” on Showtime and Netflix. Watch “Dexter: New Blood” now streaming on Showtime and Prime Video.
