The epic MonsterVerse continues with a confirmed sequel to this year’s blockbuster, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Warner Bros. recently unveiled its upcoming slate, revealing that the follow-up will premiere in 2027.
This news comes alongside the announcement of a new director taking the helm. While details are scarce beyond the release date, Warner Bros. remains committed to the MonsterVerse. The franchise continues to be a box office powerhouse. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire dominated theaters, securing an impressive $80 million opening weekend and crushing its competition with a global gross of $567.6 million, far exceeding its estimated $135 million budget.
Adam Wingard, who directed the last two MonsterVerse entries, Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, won’t return for the next chapter. But according to THR, the story will reportedly pick up where “The New Empire” left off.
