Along with a new clip from The Crow, the first look at “Teacup,” Peacock’s upcoming horror series, has surfaced at San Diego Comic-Con. The series is from horror maestro James Wan‘s Atomic Monster Productions. The adaptation is based on Robert McCammon’s acclaimed 1988 novel Stinger. The series promises a chilling blend of sci-fi, mystery, and drama.
“Teacup” stars Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale), Scott Speedman (Underworld), Kathy Baker (Picket Fences), and Boris McGiver. Set in rural Georgia, the series follows a group of ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances.
Wan, known for his work on the Saw, Insidious, and Conjuring franchises, was immediately drawn to McCammon’s novel. He praises showrunner Ian McCulloch’s vision for bringing the story to life “in a fresh way that was both startling and darkly atmospheric.”
Stinger is a massive 550-page epic exploring themes of racial tension, societal anxieties, and the human spirit’s resilience. The series makes key changes to translate this complex narrative to the screen. The setting is moved from Texas to Georgia, and the story is streamlined for a better viewing experience. “It’s the acoustic version of a Radiohead song,” says McCulloch, highlighting the series’ more concise format.
The series title, “Teacup,” is a departure from the source material. McCulloch remains tight-lipped on the reason for the change, stating, “The reasons for this are too spoilery to share, but watch the first few episodes and all will be revealed.”
With its stellar cast, horror pedigree behind the scenes, and intriguing mystery surrounding the title, “Teacup” is poised to be a must-watch for horror and sci-fi fans. The first two episodes premiere on Peacock on October 10th, followed by a two-episode weekly release leading up to Halloween.
