Just two months after its theatrical release, Sony Pictures’ horror movie Tarot is set to find new life on Netflix. The movie, starring Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Jacob Batalon, will be available before the summer’s over.

Based on the 1992 novel by Nicholas Adams, Tarot, written and directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, the movie follows a group of teenagers who break a fundamental rule of the occult—never use another person’s tarot deck.

Their reckless disregard for the sacred rules of tarot reading unleashes a malevolent entity trapped within the cursed cards. One by one, their destinies unfold in horrifying ways, mirroring the grim predictions foretold in their readings. They are thrust into a desperate fight for survival, racing against time to escape the clutches of their predetermined fates.

The movie’s young, talented cast includes Jacob Batalon, best known for his role as Ned Leeds in Marvel’s Spider-Man trilogy. Harriet Slater recently appeared in the highly anticipated Indiana Jones and the Dial of DestinyAdain Bradley brings genre experience from Wrong Turn and “The 100,” while Avantika is fresh off her role in the 2024 Mean Girls remake. Rounding out the cast is Larsen Thompson, who impressed audiences in Mike Flanagan’s Netflix series, “The Midnight Club.”

Tarot, made on an $8 million budget, brought in just over $49 million at the box office but didn’t receive great reviews, which may be the reason for it being fast-tracked for its August 1, 2024 premiere on Netflix.
