I’m going to be upfront. I have long been a fan of Bill Skarsgård. He’s a talented actor in terrifying roles like the IT franchise and more realistic roles like Barbarian and John Wick. The first time I saw the trailer for his new film Boy Kills World, I was already in.

The movie is directed by Moritz Mohr, who co-wrote the film with Tyler Burton Smith and Arend Remmers. The film is brimming with talent. The cast includes Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) and Michelle Dockery (“Downton Abbey”).

After being rescued when his mother and sister were brutally murdered, his savior trained him day and night. All for one purpose: to avenge his family’s murder, but not everything is what it seems.

Transformed into a lethal weapon, the time has come for “Boy” (Skarsgård) to be unleashed. What follows is a breathtaking display of martial arts, gunfire, and mayhem as he carves a bloody path on his mission of revenge. It is a symphony of violence and carnage that challenges the boundaries of action cinema. But dark humor lightens the mood occasionally, frequently via Skarsgård’s co-star Andrew Koji, an incredible actor, and fighter, which he displays in the gripping series “Warrior.”

I was surprised by the fact that Skarsgård never speaks. Not even the voice in his head is his own. It was an interesting choice, but it somehow works. He can get across every feeling with just his expressions and body language, reassuring me that he’s indeed a talented actor.

Most of the special effects were on point except for a few scenes where you can clearly tell they used CGI blood (I am not a fan of it). It often just looks too fake.

The cinematography by Peter Matjasko is incredible. Boy Kills World looks fantastic. With rich tones, a multitude of angles, and the way that the camera moves during action scenes are impressive.

The Verdict:

With a fresh and exciting story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, an incredible cast, and a great look, Boy Kills World is a balls-to-the-wall must-see! If you are looking for a brutal experience drenched in blood and innards and a sky-high body count, this movie is for you. The good news is you don’t have to wait to see it. It’s out now on VOD and Digital from Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions.

Bill Skarsgård will once again be on a mission of revenge in his role in The Crow, whose new clip has just been unleashed. It opens in theaters on August 23.
