In 1928, Mickey Mouse was introduced to the world under the name Steamboat Willie. Steamboat Willie entered the public domain earlier this year. Of course, it was just a matter of time before it became a horror movie.
From the team behind Terrifier and The Mean One and director Steven LaMorte comes Screamboat, which turns the creature into a murder-hungry nightmare.
David Howard Thorton, known for his role as “Art the Clown” from the Terrifier franchise, will play the new twisted Steamboat Willie. Thorton also stars in Terrifier 3, the trailer of which has just arrived.
In the movie, “A mischievous mouse stalks a group of New Yorkers on a late-night ferry ride. It unleashes murderous mayhem on a relaxing commute. Can the ship’s motley crew of travelers find a way to stop a killer creature who has developed a taste for tourists?”
Indie Wire quotes the director as saying this about the upcoming 100% practical effects movie:
“Screamboat will feature a mix of practical creature effects, miniatures, and cutting edge virtual production to showcase its very mischievous monster slashing his way through a ferry of fear.”
The new teaser trailer for Screamboat has now been released. It features a voice informing you that Willie has been hiding in the underbelly of the boat for 90 years. Now, he’s surfaced.
While the exact release date remains a mystery, we know it will premiere in January 2025. We’ll keep you posted.
