The 1992 nanny-from-hell thriller The Hand that Rocks the Cradle is getting a reimaging courtesy of 20th Century Fox. Michelle Garza Cervera, behind the acclaimed film The Bone Woman, is directing the reimagining of the classic, which has a new script by Micah Bloomberg (Sanctuary), according to THR.
It Follows and Longlegs actress Maika Monroe is set to play the lead role in the movie. After her sex offender husband gets caught in the act and kills himself, an embittered pregnant widow loses her child. She embarks on a mission of vengeance against one of her husband’s victims and the woman’s family, who she believed cost her her husband and baby.

The original film, directed by Curtis Hanson, starred Rebecca De Mornay. Ted Field, an executive producer on the original movie, is returning as a producer alongside Michael Schaefer and Mike Larocca.
Cervera’s involvement in the project will surely bring a fresh and unique perspective to the story. The remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is scheduled to begin production in early 2025. If you haven’t seen the original, which I highly recommend, you can find it on Apple TV, Prime Video, AMC, and VUDU. Here’s a look back at the original trailer.
