When it comes to horror comedies, Jonathan King’s 2006 creature feature Black Sheep is a New Zealand classic! News has surfaced out of nowhere that the fun flick is getting a sequel, and we couldn’t be more excited.
The good news continues with the announcement that King will return to the director’s chair but won’t be alone. The filmmaker is reteaming with Richard Taylor’s award-winning special effects company, Wētā Workshop, behind the killer special effects of Black Sheep. That’s not all. Nathan Meister, star of the 2006 original, is returning to reprise his role as Henry in the sequel.
In the original movie, Henry, the son of a farmer, discovers his twisted older brother has been carrying out dangerous genetic experiences on his livestock. All hell breaks loose when the sheep transform from fluffy, gentle creatures into hungry killers out for blood.
Black Sheep 2 will follow a young scientist convinced that a dangerous new pathogen threatens the population. She tracks it back to her hometown – in the shadow of the remote sheep station where the dreadful events of the original Black Sheep unfolded.
King and Grainger are producing alongside James Partridge and Samantha Braun of Terror-Fi Films. Richard Fletcher of Libertine Pictures, Philippa Campbell, Ari Harrison, and Jasmin McSweeney from Umbrella Entertainment executive produce.
Production on Black Sheep 2 is set to begin in the Spring of 2025, having you ready to ram down theater doors and have ewes screaming for more. We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, check out the original, a bloody good movie, now streaming on Apple TV, Prime Video, and Starz.
