When released this past June, the film Sous La Seine, or Under Paris, was a hit for Netflix. The shark movie currently holds second place on Netflix’s all-time watched non-English films list with a record-breaking 130 million views. News has now come that the survival thriller is getting a sequel.
Bérénice Bejo, one of the film’s stars, told the LA Tribune about plans for the next movie, which will begin filming next September. “It will not be a simple sequel. It is another film, very different… but still with a shark,” she said. Bejo also told the LA Tribune that the first film brought her many new experiences. “It brought me some special requests: Anne Hidalgo [the mayor of Paris] asked me to jump into the Seine with her. I declined,” she explained. “She also asked me if she had been the model for the mayor’s character. It’s more of a mix of her and Valérie Pécresse,” she added.
Directed by Xavier Gens, Under Paris is set in the heart of the “City of Lights.” The Seine River, usually a symbol of romance, peace, and beauty, transforms into a feeding ground for blood-thirsty predators.
A festive Parisian event takes a horrifying turn when killer sharks tear through the unsuspecting crowd. The once joyous atmosphere descends into a gruesome struggle for survival.
As chaos erupts, Bérénice Bejo (The Artist) steps forward as Sophia, a brilliant scientist determined to understand the lurking menace. She joins forces with Mika, a passionate environmental activist, and Adil, the Seine River police commander (Nassim Lyes, Overdose). This unlikely trio must race against time to stop the carnage before all of Paris is stained red.
If you haven’t seen Under Paris (spoiler-free review), dive into it now on Netflix.
