A new project from creator and showrunner Jason Ross and executive producer Ben Kasica is doing something unprecedented. The new movie Homestead, a post-apocalyptic survival thriller, will open in theaters this December. A companion series will be available on the same day to expand the story. But that’s not all. A second series, “Homestead: Family Survival,” inspired by the movie, is out now. It explores the techniques and equipment featured in the film and the series to help you be better prepared for survival in case of a disaster.
The ambitious project began with Jason Ross and Jeff Kirkham’s Black Autumn novel series, which has sold over 750,000 copies. Set against the backdrop of a collapsing civilization, the series tells the gripping story of two families. One is an ultra-prepared wealthy family, and the other is a military veteran family they’ve hired for security. The two men clash in a world teetering on the brink of chaos.
Neal McDonough (Yellowstone), Bailey Chase (Longmire), Dawn Olivieri (1883), and Kearran Giovanni (Major Crimes) star in the film. Charles Esten (Outer Banks), Jill Wagner (Lioness), and Sam Page (Mad Men) join them in the series that takes on supernatural tones.

I sat down with Ross and Kasica to discuss the projects, survival, and more. The two show a real passion for the project that they hope will affect real life, including preparing people for survival.
When Hurricane Helene hit, I was without power for over a week, and a tree on top of my house. I saw firsthand how important it is to be prepared. No grocery stores were open, and I couldn’t get out of my neighborhood due to downed trees for a week. But because I was ready, I didn’t go hungry, nor did my neighbors. Ben and Jason have created a movie, two series, and a product line, Homestead Gear, so you can be ready for what the world may throw at you. Be ready.
