Milly Shapiro, known for her roles in Hereditary and the series “Hysteria!,” has found her next role within the genre. Shapiro is starring in the post-apocalyptic horror thriller The Hallowarrior.
Written and directed by Ben Sottak, based on his short film Scavenger, The Hallowarrior follows Pumpkin (Shapiro), a plague survivor and the last girl on Earth.
Shapiro stars alongside Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight’s Tale), Ajani Russell (Betty), and AJ Bowen (You’re Next). Sossamon also executive produces. The film has already wrapped production in Syracuse, N.Y.
The Hallowarrior will see Pumpkin scavenging the wasteland for supplies on the eve of Halloween. Pumpkin’s holiday ritual is interrupted by the arrival of a savage gang of raiders led by the fearsome Thalia (Sossamon). Outnumbered and armed with candy, wit, and weapons, Pumpkin must fight back to survive the night.
“This is a throwback to the crowd-pleasing genre films I grew up watching every Halloween. The movie is dripping with nostalgic fall atmosphere, cheer-inducing kills and a lovable ‘final girl’ played by the brilliant Milly Shapiro. I can’t wait for this movie to enter horror fans’ annual October viewing rotation for years to come,” Sottak said in a statement.
Variety shared the first look at Shapiro as Pumpkin in The Hallowarrior, where Shapiro is dressed in a Halloween sweater surrounded by orange light coming through boarded-up windows.
