Austin Butler has made a name for himself by giving impressive performances in films like Elvis, The Bikeriders, Dune: Part Two, and The Dead Don’t Die. Now, the talented actor has found his next role. He is starring as Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino’s new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel American Psycho.
The film, set in the 80s, centers on a wealthy New York City investment banking executive, Patrick Bateman, who hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies.
Christian Bale played the iconic role in the 2000 adaptation directed by Mary Harron. His eerie performance as a narcissistic psycho made Bale a household name. Butler has the same ability to play the suave bad boy type, making him a fantastic choice for the role.
Director Guadagino has already proven his talent behind the camera with films like Call Me by Your Name, and 2024’s Challengers. He also proved that he can make a sucsesful reboot. He’s behind 2018’s Suspiria. The film racked up multiple awards, including a Saturn Award. In all it won 28 awards and received 75 nominations, which is extremely impressive.
American Psycho is currently in pre-production. We expect casting announcements to be made soon. If you haven’t seen the original or simply want to re-watch it, you can find it on Apple TV and Prime Video.
