While the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth is months away, some details, including the main cast, have surfaced. The latest details are from writer David Koepp, who recently revealed three rules Rebirth will follow.

Speaking with TheWrap, Koepp—who worked on the screenplays for 1993’s Jurassic Park and 1997’s Jurassic Park: Lost World said that he wrote nine rules, or “commandments,” that the new film must follow.

“Number one was – the events of the previous six movies cannot be denied or contradicted because I hate a retcon,” he said.

The second rule is “all science must be real,” while the third one is “humor is oxygen.” Klopp keeps the other six rules to himself because they are “spoiler-y territory.”

Koepp also stated, “The idea of starting afresh. You don’t often get that chance where they give you very few guidelines, except there must be dinosaurs in it…Writing those first two movies were some of my favorite experiences in my career so far. The combination of grand adventure and real science is right up my alley. And it was fun to be able to decide on a new tone, because every three movies seems like a good time to change tone and characters in a franchise. It was great to be able to work solely with Steven and make up a story and think of all new characters and all in a different tone.”

Reportedly set after Jurassic World: Dominion events, the film will follow a team of experts led by Scarlett Johansson‘s character, Zora Bennett. The group embarks on a perilous mission to secure DNA samples from the three largest dinosaurs on Earth. However, the mission takes an unexpected turn when they encounter a stranded family and uncover a shocking secret hidden for decades.

Joining Johansson are Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein.

Jurassic World: Rebirth is directed by Gareth Edwards, who is also known for Monsters, Godzilla, and Rouge One. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley produce, and Steven Spielberg serves as executive producer.

Jurassic World: Rebirth will open in theaters nationwide on July 2, 2025. Check out the previously released images here.
