Retrofiction Games, a solo development studio, is thrilled to unveil further details for its upcoming 2D survival-horror title, Dead of Darkness, ahead of its launch.
Dead of Darkness is a captivating 2D action-adventure game steeped in cosmic horror. Featuring a meticulously crafted 12-hour campaign, the game delivers a rich narrative, a foreboding atmosphere, deep lore, and challenging puzzles.
Players can choose from four difficulty levels, ranging from “Very Easy” to “Hard,” with additional challenging modes. “Very Hard” and “In The Dead of Darkness” are unlockable upon campaign completion. A robust New Game Plus mode and Steam Achievements will also be available at launch.
Rendered with stunning pixel-perfect, sprite-based art, Dead of Darkness comes to life with eye-catching high-definition anime-style illustrations, atmospheric lighting, and immersive sound design. Two hours of fully voiced cutscenes featuring a talented international cast further enrich the narrative.
Voiceovers will be available in English, while the game features full German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Simplified Chinese localization for all in-game narrative and UI text.

Dead of Darkness will launch for PC on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025. A demo is now available via Steam, where you can also wishlist the game. Eastasiasoft will later bring the game to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox consoles. An additional 15% discount will also be available to those who pick the game up during launch week.
