Netflix has announced the premiere of “Cassandra,” a chilling new German horror series. This six-part miniseries delves into the terrifying potential of artificial intelligence when a family moves into a house with a sinister past.
The series centers around Samira (Mina Tander) and her family, who unknowingly move into a house with a dark history. The home boasts an advanced, decades-old smart home system controlled by an AI named Cassandra, which has been dormant since the mysterious deaths of the previous residents.
Upon reactivation, Cassandra, initially designed as a helpful household assistant, displays unsettling behavior. Obsessed with protecting the family, Cassandra transcends its intended purpose, becoming a controlling and potentially dangerous force within the home.
The series boasts a talented cast, including Lavinia Wilson as the voice of Cassandra, Michael Klammer, Franz Hartwig, and Mary Tölle. Joshua Kantara, Elias Grünthal, and Filip Schnack round off the cast.
Benjamin Gutsche directed the series and penned the screenplay. Eva Stadler and Christian Becker produced it, with Amara Palacios serving as executive producer.
The series marks just one of the many films and series featuring AI’s dark side, including Subservience, which is also streaming on Netflix. Of course, there’s also the movie M3GAN and its upcoming sequel, M3GAN 2.0.
Explore the dangers of artificial intelligence. “Cassandra” premieres globally on Netflix on February 6, 2025.
