A new fifteen-part docuseries, “First Word on Horror,” will delve into the lives and minds of five of today’s most celebrated horror writers, including Stephen Graham Jones, Paul Tremblay (pictured), Elizabeth Hand, Laird Barron, and Mariana Enriquez.

Each episode follows a different author, exploring their unique creative journey through intimate conversations, captivating storytelling, and stunning visuals. Each writer shares their personal experiences and reading selections. The series also reveals the profound impact of life, culture, and personal history on their work.

From the harrowing landscapes of Alaska to the haunting echoes of Argentina’s dark past, “First Word on Horror” takes viewers on a global odyssey, exploring the diverse influences that shape these master storytellers.

The series, directed by Emmy and WGA Award-winning filmmaker Philip Gelatt (The Spine Of Night, Europa Report, They Remain, Love Death + Robots), explores the creative process.

First Word on Horror” is produced by Etch, an independent production company known for its provocative and innovative work. Watch the series when it premieres exclusively on Substack on February 7, 2025.
