Fans were heartbroken when the CW canceled the “Swamp Thing“ series. Now, fans have hope. While the series is not getting a revival, a new movie is coming.
Director James Mangold has confirmed that his upcoming Swamp Thing film will be a standalone project independent of the DC Universe. In an interview with MovieWeb, Mangold stated, “About like ‘Swamp Thing’ at DC… It’s just a matter of do we find a way on the page to say something original. While I’m sure DC views ‘Swamp Thing’ as a franchise, I would be viewing it as a very simple, clean, Gothic horror movie about this man/monster… [I’m] just doing my own thing with this, just a standalone.”
Mangold has had an impressive career and is known for his diverse filmography spanning multiple genres. He’s behind films like Logan, The Wolverine, and Walk the Line. He also delivered Ford vs. Ferrari, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and The Greatest Showman, each impressive in its own right. He’s also working on a new Star Wars movie. With talent like Mangold’s, fans have high hopes for the new film, and rightfully so.
Writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson created the original “Swamp Thing” comic book series, which debuted in 1972. Its blend of horror, science fiction, and environmental themes captivated audiences. The character has since appeared in various comic book series and has been adapted for television and film. The story follows Dr. Alec Holland, a scientist who becomes the titular Swamp Thing after a lab experiment goes awry.
Mangold’s Swamp Thing promises to be a unique and chilling exploration of the iconic character, offering a fresh perspective with a gothic horror spin. And we’re here for it.
