Thordur Palsson’s chilling new film, The Damned, is out now. The tense psychological horror film centers on a widow and a group of fishermen. They must make an impossible choice after a ship sinks off the coast of their isolated outpost.
.
With provisions running low, the close-knit fishing community must choose between rescuing the shipwrecked crew or prioritizing their own survival. Facing the consequences of their decision and tormented by guilt, they wrestle with mounting dread and a haunting legend that seems all too real.
.
The impressive cast includes Odessa Young (The Daughter), Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders), and Siobhan Finneran (Downton Abbey). Rory McCann, Turlough Convery, Lewis Gribben, Francis Magee, and Mícheál Óg Lane also star. Andrean Sigurgeirsson (The Darkness), Guillermo Uria (The Real Story Of), and Arnar Máni Iansson Gray round out the cast.
The Damned takes place in an unforgiving setting of ice and wind where death comes easy. It is a place that is steeped in immense beauty and turbulent folklore. For director Thordur Palsson (The Valhalla Murders), a native Icelander, it was this folklore that inspired The Damned.
.
The Damned, which I called “a psychological horror film done right” in my
review, is now out on VOD from Vertical Entertainment, including on
Prime Video.
