Film festival season 2025 is officially underway, which means brand-new fright-fare features and shorts galore in our future! One of the intriguing-looking independent chillers on this year’s fest circuit is writer/director David Melendez’s It Takes, which has been officially selected to have its World Premiere at the 2025 Golden State Film Festival in Hollywood, California at the legendary TCL Chinese Theater.

The film’s official synopsis is: Michael (Neil Antonio), an aspiring actor, abruptly resigns from his career to chase his childhood Hollywood Dream. Upon moving to Los Angeles he eagerly prepares himself to meet the challenges in becoming famous. But before Michael can settle in, his estranged and self-regarding younger brother leaves an 8-year-old boy (Bubba Melendez) on Michael’s doorstep. Michael soon finds out that the child is his nephew. As Michael desperately tries to come to grips with the situation and locate his brother, he begins to experience unexplained phenomena and begins to believe that something sinister dwells within his apartment.

It Takes also stars Megan Connell, Lucy Nguyen Ti, Frederick Shaibani, Elaine Little, and David Melendez. Izrael Melendez performed cinematography and editing duties, and Maria Melendez served as producer. This is David Melendez’s debut feature film, after previously helming two short films.
