Yellow Veil Pictures’ The Dead Thing made its world premiere at the prestigious Fantasia International Film Festival. Now its available to watch from the comfort of your own couch on Shudder.

This captivating film, directed by Elric Kane, explores the darker aspects of contemporary love and the seductive, often perilous, nature of online connections.

The Dead Thing is a psychological horror thriller with a supernatural edge. It follows Alex (played by Blu Hunt), a woman caught in a cycle of meaningless hookups. Her routine is disrupted when a dating app match leads her to a mysterious and charming young man. Their passionate night together ends with his sudden disappearance at dawn. Alex searches for him to recapture the connection that made her feel alive. Her investigation leads her back to him, but she also unearths a chilling supernatural secret. The pair quickly becomes entangled in a whirlwind of obsession, dependence, lust, and infatuation, a dangerous spiral with grave consequences.

The Dead Thing promises a thought-provoking and unsettling cinematic experience. It blends the suspense of a psychological thriller with the chilling elements of supernatural horror while exploring modern relationships and the potential dangers lurking behind online personas.

Elric Kane and Webb Wilcoxen co-wrote the film. The talented cast includes Blu Hunt (The New Mutants) and Ben Smith-Petersen (Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga). John Karna (Scream, Lady Bird) and Katherine Hughes (Tell Me Lies) also deliver compelling performances.

HorrorFuel’s Joseph Perry calls “A gripping study on alienation and toxic partners” in his film festival review for The Dead Thing, now on Shudder.
