Eli Roth, the maestro of mayhem, has unleashed a new beast upon the horror landscape! He’s launched The Horror Section, a comprehensive new media company. It’s not just about churning out scary movies. Roth wants to build a community. He’s inviting horror fans to become part of the company’s very fabric.
A New Venture
Roth has delivered iconic horror films with a career spanning over 25 years. Think Cabin Fever, Green Inferno, the Hostel franchise, and Thanksgiving. Now, he’s teaming up with Media Capital Technologies to create a venture that spans movies, television, gaming, podcasts, and live events.
“I’ve done this very successfully and everything that I’ve done for this zone has made a lot of money for a lot of people,” Roth told The Hollywood Reporter. “Now it’s time to put it all under one umbrella, build a label, but really do that go-for-the-throat horror that I love, that the fans love from me.” Roth aims to deliver the raw, intense horror his fans crave.
He points to Thanksgiving as a prime example. He wants that film to be the baseline. “Everything else is going to go further than that,” he promised. Expect even more extreme horror.
Thanksgiving featured a killer who sliced victims like a holiday turkey. Now, Roth and MCT will offer fans a slice of the action. They partnered with Republic, an investing platform. They will offer accredited and non-accredited investors worldwide a piece of the company.
Up to a 10 percent stake will be available starting March 21. Fans will share in potential profits and own a piece of horror characters and franchises. They will also enjoy first looks and perks. One unique perk: Roth will “kill” a fan on camera in one of his movies; all you have to do is invest $1 million.
Giving fans ownership is a relatively new trend. However, it’s gaining traction in the genre space. Fan enthusiasm drives success. Last week, Robert Rodriguez launched Brass Knuckle Films. He’s inviting fans to invest in his action movie production company. Republic also powers this initiative. They previously facilitated investments for Skybound Entertainment and Pressman Films.
“When your fans come in as investors, you build an audience from the very start, which gives you more leverage when you’re looking for distribution,” said Marc Iserlis. “You now have a whole community who will organically promote the project, because they have a financial stake in its success.”
