Get ready for a chilling blend of found footage and social commentary! Terror Films Releasing (TFR) has teamed up with writer/director Kyle Tague to unleash his unsettling horror film, Don’t Peek. This movie dives deep into the dark side of internet fame and the chilling legacy of a serial killer.
Don’t Peek stars Kelly Rook Daly, Jonathan Faircloth Kirk, and Robbie Allen. The film follows a couple who make their living by creating content for YouTube. They discover a disturbing secret about their new home: the previous owner was a serial killer. He documented his gruesome crimes on VHS tapes and believed his victims haunted the house.
Kyle Tague, who also produced Don’t Peek, shared his thoughts on the film’s creation: “The technological gap between the closed loop of the VHS tape and the digital reach of the vlog is almost maddening. Consider the difference in how one behaves in front of a VHS lens versus a modern smartphone or web camera, and how one might expect the footage from either source to be used, distributed, and ultimately consumed. I would argue that a VHS tape is something intensely personal, something intended to be only seen by a select few, whereas any footage captured by a digital camera is at risk of becoming grist for a content mill.”
Tague goes on to say, “In ‘Don’t Peek,’ I wanted to explore self-commodification as a way of life and the dangers of making yourself and your loved ones a product as you seek the riches and glory that come with the approval of unseen millions and the almighty algorithm. Fame won through the Internet typically comes with a cost, however, and that thorny truth provoked this story of an obsessive would-be influencer who has more in common than he realizes with an intensely private, analogue-inclined serial killer. After all, since its invention, the camera can dehumanize when placed in the wrong hands.”
Tague’s comments highlight the film’s exploration of modern anxieties and obsessions. The film explores the intimacy of VHS tapes with the public nature of online content. It also delves into the potential for technology to dehumanize, whether in the hands of a serial killer or an influencer.
Terror Films will release Don’t Peek on April 11, 2025, across various platforms, including Tubi TV, Scare Network TV, Kings of Horror, Watch Movies Now, and more.
