Alright, let’s dive into Prime Video’s new show, “The Bondsman,” starring the ever-reliable Kevin Bacon. You know, that guy who’s been in everything from Footloose to Tremors and that seriously underrated gem, Stir of Echoes. And let’s be real, after all these years, the series proves that Bacon’s still got it.

What’s is it About?

In “The Bondsman,” he plays Hub Halloran, a bounty hunter who, well, meets an untimely end on the job. But instead of kicking back in the afterlife, he gets a serious curveball: he’s resurrected and given a new gig, basically being the Devil’s demon wrangler. He’s about to catch hell. His mission? Track down all the Hell spawn that have escaped and send them back to where they belong. And to top it all off, he has to deal with his ex-wife’s new boyfriend, who just so happened to be the guy who ordered his murder. Talk about a complicated work-life balance.

Now, Hub’s not exactly going solo on this demonic cleanup crew mission. He’s got his mom, played by the amazing Beth Grant, backing him up. And then there’s the whole family drama angle, with his ex (Jennifer Nettles) and son (Maxwell Jenkins) getting tangled up in the mess, especially as they start figuring out what her new boyfriend, Lucky (Damon Herriman), is really up to. Plus, he gets a supervisor named Midge (Jolene Purdy) who helps him learn the ropes of his new, uh, supernatural job.

Honestly, Bacon absolutely nails this role. Hub is just a really relatable character. He’s got that classic Bacon charm, but he’s also got this kind of world-weary, been-through-some-stuff vibe that just works. And, let’s be honest, watching him kick demon butt is just plain fun.

The Verdict

“The Bondsman” has got some solid special effects and a story that really pulls you in. I ended up binge-watching the whole season, which is always a good sign. It’s got a fresh take on the whole demon-hunting thing, even though I did get some “R.I.P.D.” vibes, which, ironically, Bacon was also in. But “The Bondsman” manages to carve out its own identity, blending that supernatural action with some genuine family drama and a healthy dose of dark humor. If you’re looking for something a little different, and you’re a fan of Bacon’s, this one’s definitely worth checking out.
