Get ready, horror fanatics, because Shudder is about to crank up the terror in a new way! They’re teaming up once again with the master of horror, Greg Nicotero. He is the creative genius behind the “Creepshow” series and, you know, pretty much every iconic walker in “The Walking Dead” universe. Their latest brainchild? A brand-spanking-new immersive horror competition series called “Guts & Glory,” and it sounds insane.

Mark your calendars because “Guts & Glory” is slated to drop later this year on Shudder and AMC+. It will air both here in the good old US and in Canada. This isn’t your grandma’s baking competition, folks. This six-episode series is flipping the script on the whole competition show concept. It will throw contestants headfirst into a full-blown, immersive horror experience with challenges that’ll have them screaming (probably).

Rob Fox, the EVP of production for AMC Networks, is clearly stoked about this. He gushes about Nicotero’s legendary status in the horror world. He promises moments that will shock and surprise and showcase the horror genre’s depth and creativity.

If you know horror, you know the innovation and creativity that Greg Nicotero brings to the genre. His legendary special effects work has given audiences a fresh and thrilling take on familiar genre staples from his notorious walkers of The Walking Dead to the monsters of Creepshow and more, never failing to shock and scare, said Rob Fox, EVP of production for AMC Networks. “We’re thrilled to continue our longstanding relationship with Greg in bringing his unique concept to life with moments and scenarios that shock, surprise and showcase the depth of this genre.

And Nicotero himself? He sounds like a kid in a candy store (a very, very spooky candy store). He’s practically buzzing with excitement about this new venture. He’s describing it as a wild mashup – “if ‘Survivor’ and ‘The Blair Witch Project’ had a baby.” That mental image alone is enough to send shivers down your spine! He’s particularly thrilled about the challenge of creating special effects that have to happen live, in real-time, capturing the genuine, terrified reactions of the contestants as they fight to see who will ultimately come out on top. To add to the awesome factor, Nicotero reunites with several key crew members from the “The Walking Dead” universe to help bring this chaotic vision to reality.

Behind the scenes, Nicotero is pulling double duty as the showrunner and executive producer alongside Brian Witten from Monster Agency Productions, Chris Wagner from White Label, and Andrew Molina from Salaryman. Jeffrey F. January is also on board as a co-executive producer, making for a powerhouse team ready to deliver some serious scares.

It’s shaping up to be a massive year for Shudder, by the way. It’s the tenth anniversary, and they are pulling out all the stops to celebrate with programming, fan events, and some seriously cool limited-edition merchandise. Nicotero is also busy with “Guts & Glory” and his series adaptation of the chilling novel “Swan Song.” So, if you’re a horror fan, your streaming queues are about to get a lot more terrifying, thanks to the twisted genius of Greg Nicotero and the folks at Shudder. Get ready for some “Guts & Glory” – it sounds like a bloody good time!
