Prepare for a chilling blend of sci-fi and horror that will leave you questioning the boundaries of desperation and the consequences of tampering with the unknown. Uncork’d Entertainment has now unleashed Wellwood, a gripping film starring Academy Award nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes.

Desperation Leads to Danger

Wellwood weaves a tale of desperate measures and unforeseen consequences. Laura (Camille Balsamo-Gillis) receives a devastating terminal illness diagnosis. Her husband Nick (Reid Collums) embarks on a quest for a cure. His search leads him to an extraordinary discovery: an extraterrestrial entity that he believes holds the key to saving Laura’s life.

However, their actions don’t go unnoticed. The couple’s pursuit of this cure attracts the attention of local law enforcement, including the sharp-witted Deputy Gracie Marsh (Keisha Castle-Hughes) and the town’s Sheriff, Bradley (Lance E. Nichols). As Nick and Laura delve deeper into their desperate plan, they become entangled in a web of unforeseen consequences, unraveling the fabric of their lives and their community.

An Impressive Cast and Crew

The film’s cast includes Castle-Hughes, known for her powerful performances in Whale Rider and Game of Thrones; Nichols, with credits in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Into the Badlands; and Balsamo-Gillis, who brings her experience from Harbinger Down and NCIS. Reid Collums penned the film’s script.

Wellwood was brought to life in the atmospheric setting of New Orleans under the direction of Eliza Hooper. The project hails from Pro Machina, with Academy Award-nominated special effects artist Alec Gillis, who mentioned the film in our recent interview, serving as executive producer and providing the film’s practical effects. Gillis, renowned for his work on Alien: Romulus, Smile, and Prey, continues his legacy of groundbreaking creature design and effects work.

“Fans of sci-fi horror are in for something special with ‘Wellwood,’” says Keith Leopard, President of Uncork’d Entertainment. “The film delivers a tense, emotional story with incredible performances and top-tier practical effects from the legendary team at studioADI. We’re excited for audiences to experience it when it debuts this April.”

Wellwood promises to be more than just a horror film. It’s a story that explores the depths of human desperation, the consequences of playing with forces beyond our understanding, and the chilling beauty of practical effects. Watch it now on digital and VOD.
