Are you ready for a fresh and brutal take on the Predator mythos? 20th Century Studios and Hulu have just dropped the first trailer for Predator: Killer of Killers. It’s a brand-new animated anthology film. What’s even better? We won’t have to wait long. The movie is set to start streaming this June.
Something New
The animated movie will present three separate stories, a first for the franchise. Each will showcase different aliens as they stalk and eliminate formidable human warriors in various historical periods. Imagine a Predator clashing with soldiers during the chaos of World War II or another Predator silently hunting a samurai in feudal Japan.
The anthology narrative will center on three of the most fearsome warriors in human history. First, we’ll see a Viking raider leading her young son on a blood-soaked quest for revenge. Then, we’ll witness a ninja in feudal Japan who turns against his samurai brother in a brutal fight for power. Finally, a World War II pilot will take to the skies to investigate a mysterious, otherworldly threat that could endanger the Allied forces. While these warriors are deadly in their own right, they are about to become prey to an even more lethal opponent: the ultimate killer of killers – the Predator.
A Talented Director
The animated Predator was developed alongside a new live-action movie. Both projects are spearheaded by Dan Trachtenberg. He’s been a key figure in the franchise since his critically acclaimed and fan-favorite 2022 movie, Prey. That film brilliantly placed a Predator in the 1700s, hunting Native Americans.
Speaking to the press after showcasing footage from “Killer of Killers,” Trachtenberg revealed that Prey directly inspired the animated film. He wondered what unique stories could be told by dropping a Predator into different historical eras. He also wanted to bring the gory, hard-R action that the “Predator” movies are known for into a new medium – animation.
“I love in Predator movies, [the] hard-R, crazy carnage,” Trachtenberg reportedly said to GamesRadar. “Wouldn’t it be cool to see that in a different medium? So we made this movie, Killer of Killers, at the exact same time— stupidly, but awesomely—and it is an anthology movie.”
Trachtenberg also confirmed that the visual style of “Killer of Killers” was inspired by Netflix’s “Arcane” series and that some of the talented individuals who worked on that show contributed to this new “Predator” movie.
