Alright, slasher fanatics, get ready to sharpen your machetes. After sixteen long years of legal issues and drama, the Friday the 13th franchise is finally slashing its way back into our lives! The highly anticipated prequel series, “Crystal Lake,” is officially moving forward, for real this time. Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane (“Welcome to Derry“) just dropped some seriously exciting news on Instagram.

The Series Is Finally Slashing Its Way Onto the Small Screen

Kane posted a photo on his Instagram account, giving us a glimpse of what appears to be a “Crystal Lake” production draft script. But the real kicker? He announced that the show’s production offices are officially open for business! That’s right, folks, the sounds of pre-production are echoing through the woods (hopefully accompanied by the tell-tale “ch-ch-ch, ha-ha-ha”).

Based on the iconic characters created by Victor Miller, writer of the original Friday the 13th (1980), the script appears in Kane’s photo. Credited to Kane himself, the copyright is registered to “Camp Blood LLC.” For those in the know, “Camp Blood” is synonymous with the franchise’s gruesome legacy. So seeing that on the script is a definite nod to the series’ bloody roots. This update strongly suggests that pre-production is in full swing, with actual filming likely gearing up to kick off in the not-too-distant future.

Casting News

We also already have some juicy casting information to sink our teeth into. Linda Cardellini (“Freaks and Geeks,” “Scooby-Doo” and “Dead to Me”) is set to take on the pivotal role of Mrs. Voorhees in the series from A24 and Peacock. She’s described as “a mother who had given up a singing career to raise a special needs child. Things take a dark turn when she loses her son.” And we all know who that special needs child is, don’t we? None other than the hockey-masked legend himself, Jason Voorhees.

Crystal Lake” is an “expanded prequel” to the original Friday the 13th franchise. It promises to delve deep into the origins of Jason Voorhees and his fiercely protective mother, Pamela.

An Exciting New Chapter

The prospect of learning more is particularly exciting for long-time fans. We’re likely to get a much more in-depth look at the events leading up to young Jason’s tragic drowning and the subsequent vengeful rampage of his grief-stricken mother. This series has the potential to flesh out the lore in ways we’ve never seen before, offering new insights into the Voorhees family and the dark history of Camp Crystal Lake.

After years of hoping and waiting, the nightmare is about to begin. With open production offices and a talented team at the helm, “Crystal Lake” is finally becoming a reality. Get ready to return to the infamous campgrounds, where the woods are filled with screams, the lake is always murky, and a specific hockey-masked figure may be lurking around the corner.
