Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired the rights to The Darkside of Society. This documentary explores the infamous cult classic film Society and the actual cost of making it.
Society shocked audiences in 1989. Its surreal depiction of elite corruption made it an essential horror film, with the “shunting” scene unforgettable for genre fans. However, the film’s writer, known then as Woody Keith, faced a real psychological struggle. Today, he is Zeph E. Daniel, ready to share his chilling truth for the first time.
The Darkside of Society is not just a nostalgic look back. It explores Daniel’s realization that the film’s twisted plot was more autobiographical than he knew. It was a subconscious expression of childhood trauma. The documentary is a raw examination of art and memory, delving into the creative process’s dark aspects.
Larry Wade Carrell directed the documentary and is now Daniel’s producing partner at Crazed House. The two made the thriller Girl Next Door before making the recent film The Quantum Devil, part of their “Quantum Quartet” film series.
“With built-in appeal for horror fans, cult movie lovers, and documentary audiences alike, The Darkside of Society delivers shocking revelations and a fresh perspective on a beloved genre classic,” says Keith Leopard, President of Uncork’d Entertainment. “Zeph E. Daniel’s story is as unsettling as the film itself — a fascinating and deeply personal look at the creation of one of horror’s most unforgettable cult films. We’re excited to bring this revealing documentary to audiences everywhere.”
Society sees an ordinary teenage boy discover his family is part of a gruesome orgy cult for the social elite in a scene or intense body horror. If you want to rewatch or watch it for the first time, you can find it streaming on Fubo, Plex, and Prime Video.
