In March, we first barked about Good Boy, a new horror film taking a unique bite out of the genre. Now, the tail-wagging news comes via Deadline: Shudder has acquired the right to unleash Good Boy.

A Unique Perspective

This chilling tale marks Ben Leonberg’s feature directorial debut. He also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Alex Cannon. But here’s where things get truly interesting: the star of Good Boy isn’t your typical human actor. Leonberg’s dog, Indy, takes center stage in this perspective-driven horror story. Indy is joined by a human cast including Shane Jensen, Larry Fessenden, Arielle Friedman, Anya Krawcheck, and Stuart Rudin.

A Dark, Unsettling Tale

Good Boy follows Indy as he embarks on a new adventure with his beloved human and best friend, Todd. Leaving the hustle and bustle of city life behind, they venture to a long-vacant family home nestled in the quiet countryside. Right from the start, two things become abundantly clear: Indy is deeply wary of the creepy old house and its unsettling atmosphere, and his unwavering affection and loyalty for Todd are absolute.

Indy’s new world is immediately steeped in unease. His keen canine senses detect invisible presences lurking within the house’s walls. He follows phantom tracks that lead to nowhere, receives chilling warnings, and fleeting glimpses of the previous resident’s gruesome and tragic demise. As a dark and malevolent influence begins to take hold of Todd, Indy must summon all his courage and determination to fight a sinister force intent on dragging his beloved human into the afterlife. This isn’t just about a haunted house, but the unbreakable bond between a boy and his dog facing unimaginable terror.

Emily Gotto, Shudder’s SVP of Acquisitions and Production, perfectly captured the film’s unique appeal. “Ben Leonberg’s debut is a singular experience in perspective-driven horror,” she stated. “Told entirely through the eyes of Indy, a devoted dog whose terror and determination to save his human become our own, the film delivers a haunting and emotional experience that introduces a surprising standout performance from Indy and a strikingly assured first feature from Leonberg.”

Get ready to experience horror from a whole new angle—through a very good boy’s loyal and terrified gaze. With Shudder now on board, it won’t be long before Good Boy claws its way onto your screens. It promises a unique and unsettling film that explores the powerful bond between humans and their furry companions in the face of ultimate evil.
