Get ready for some truly unexpected news from the world of acclaimed cinema! Lynne Ramsay, the visionary director behind intense films such as We Need to Talk About Kevin and You Were Never Really Here, plans to reunite with an actor she has previously worked with, according to IndieWire. And the choice might just raise a few eyebrows.

“I’m making a vampire movie,” Ramsay recently revealed to The Los Angeles Times, adding, “It’s with Ezra Miller who was in ‘Kevin.’ He’s the main character. That’s in development.”

This is significant news for several reasons. Firstly, Ramsay is a formidable figure in international cinema. She has only made five feature films in the last 25 years. That includes Ratcatcher, Morvern Callar, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and You Were Never Really Here. Her latest, Die, My Love, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

Secondly, the decision to work with Ezra Miller again comes after a period marked by significant controversy and legal troubles for the actor. Miller’s career, including their prominent role as The Flash in DC films, has been overshadowed by them.

Documented Controversies Surrounding Miller (according to NPR):
  • March 2022 (Hawaii):

Miller was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and harassment. At a karaoke bar, they reportedly became agitated and grabbed a microphone and lunged at a man.

  • April 2022 (Hawaii):

A month later, Miller was arrested again. This time, for allegedly throwing a chair at a woman, causing injury to her forehead.

  • June 2022:

Two parents, Chase Iron Eyes and Sara Jumping Eagle, obtained a protective order against Miller. They alleged physical and emotional abuse of their 18-year-old daughter. Court documents, seen by TMZ and the Los Angeles Times, reportedly accused Miller of providing the daughter with alcohol and drugs. And he exhibited “cult-like and psychologically manipulative behavior.”

  • June 2022:

The Daily Beast reported on another protection order granted to a 12-year-old and their mother. The family alleged Miller came to their home. He yelled about cultural appropriation and later made the child uncomfortable with overly close hugs during multiple return visits.

  • August 2022 (Vermont):

Miller was charged with felony burglary. He allegedly stole alcohol from a private residence. They later accepted a plea deal, resulting in probation.

Despite this, Ramsay has chosen to collaborate with Ezra Miller once more. It’s worth noting that Ramsay’s projects are typically intense and character-driven, and Miller’s performance in We Need to Talk About Kevin was widely praised for its unsettling power.

The vampire film is currently in development. Given Ramsay’s distinctive style, it’s sure to be far from your typical bloodsucker flick. It will be interesting to see how this project unfolds and what unique vision Ramsay brings to the vampire genre with Miller in the lead.
