Dichen Lachman (“Severance”) has just been cast in the latest horror film from director Rob Savage (Host, Dashcam). She’ll be joining the previously announced stars, Jessica Chastain and Jay Duplass, making for an exciting ensemble!
A Dream Team
The film is being produced by the genre powerhouses Atomic Monster and Blumhouse. As well as Spin a Black Yarn, for Universal Pictures. Talk about a dream team!
The film is written by Nathan Elston (“Succession”), and it’s based on the chilling book Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman (Bird Box). If you’ve read Malerman, you know you’re in for a wild and unsettling ride.
James Wan is on board as a producer, continuing his reign as a titan in the horror genre. The executive producing team includes Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, Rob Savage, Josh Malerman, and Ryan Lewis. Alayna Glasthal is the executive overseeing the film for Atomic Monster.
Lachman has been killing it recently. Her second season arc on “Severance” included the standalone episode 207, “Sweet Vitriol,” which provided the backstory on her character and her history with Adam Scott’s “Mark.” Her performance deepened the emotional stakes of the series and paved the way for that heart-stopping season finale cliffhanger.
But her impressive resume doesn’t stop there! Lachman will soon star in the second and third seasons of Netflix’s live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender. She’s also known for her roles in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Jurassic World: Dominion. She even reprised the latter role in the animated series “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.” Her diverse body of work also includes breakout performances in “Altered Carbon,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Raya and the Last Dragon,” and “Animal Kingdom.”
What’s the Book about?
While we do know the upcoming film is stacked with talent and based on Incidents Around the House. But what’s the book about? Published in 2024, the story revolves around a young girl named Bela. Bela is followed by an entity she refers to as “Other Mommy.” Although she initially believes “Other Mommy” is her friend, the relationship takes a sinister turn, threatening her and her parents. Sounds spooky, right?
Hopefully, more details will surface soon. We’ll keep you posted.
