Get ready for a screw-turning psychological thriller made for the digital age! Lurker is the razor-sharp directorial debut from Alex Russell, the brilliant writer-producer behind hit shows such as “The Bear” and “Beef.” This film is set to dive deep into the blurred lines between online fixation and terrifying reality.
Life, Death, and Obsession
The story follows Matthew (Théodore Pellerin), a twenty-something retail clerk and loner in Los Angeles. He crosses paths with rising pop star Oliver (Archie Madekwe from Saltburn). Matthew seizes the chance to edge his way into the coveted inner circle. But will he stay there? That’s a whole different story.
With Havana Rose Liu, Zack Fox, Daniel Zolghadri, and Sunny Suljic’s characters all vying for Oliver’s attention, Matthew must prove himself as more than just a follower. As their bond grows strained and mainstream fame appears within reach, access becomes a matter of life and death.
Lurker is a paranoid, cat-and-mouse film where online fixation meets its terrifying real-world consequences. Driven by absolute star-making performances from its cast, it offers an incisive view into contemporary culture. Add a brilliant score from Kenny Beats (known for his work with Vince Staples) and you’ve got a must-watch film.
A Talented Writer-Director
Alex Russell not only directed but also wrote Lurker, which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, showcasing Russell’s talent as a filmmaker. He served as Co-Executive Producer on Netflix and A24’s “Beef,” for which he earned an Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. He was also a Supervising Producer on FX’s Emmy-winning series “The Bear.” His episode – S2E7, “Forks” – was one of the most critically acclaimed episodes of television last year. It was nominated for a WGA award. Russell got his start as a staff writer on the first two seasons of “Dave” and was recently a Producer on Hulu’s series “Interior Chinetown.”
Lurker is produced by Alex Orlovsky, Duncan Montgomery, Galen Core, Charlie McDowell, Jack Selby, Marc Marrie, Francesco Melzi d’Eril, Olmo Schnabel, and Archie Madekwe.
