Bloody New ‘Red Sonja’ Trailer Arrives Ahead of August Premiere

Witness the rise of a legend and some serious barbarian action! The movie adaptation of the comic Red Sonja is set to be unleashed this August. The official trailer has arrived are teases battles, blood, and those born to fight.

A Quest for Vengeance and Freedom

The film is directed by M.J. Bassett (Ash vs. Evil Dead), with Matilda Lutz (Revenge) starring as the legendary title character.

In the film, “Enslaved by an evil tyrant who wishes to destroy her people, barbarian huntress Red Sonja must unite a group of unlikely warriors to face off against Dragan The Magnificent and his deadly bride, Dark Annisia.”

Lutz stars alongside Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy), Wa”lis Day (Sheroes), Michael Bisping (Den of Thieves), Luca Pasqualino (Snowpiercer), Rhona Mitra (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans), Martyn Ford (Final Score), and Ben Radcliffe (Cuban Fury). Eliza Matengu (Predestination), Phillip Winchester (Strike Back), Veronica Ferres (Crisis), and Trevor Eve (Waking the Dead) round out the cast in the film written by Joey Soloway and Tasha Huo.

The Legacy of Red Sonja

For those unfamiliar, Red Sonja is a fierce comic book heroine, famously played by Brigitte Nielsen in the 1985 film. The character was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics back in 1973, drawing inspiration from Robert E. Howard’s previously created Red Sonja of Rogatino. Currently, new Red Sonja comics are published by Dynamite Comics.

Red Sonja will hit theaters on August 15th, followed by its release on digital platforms on August 29th. And yes, it’s rated “R” for “Strong/bloody violence,” so expect some serious action”
