Last week, we reported that Lee Cronin’s The Mummy has wrapped production. Now, Deadline reports that Hayat Kamille (Vikings: Valhalla) will star in the fresh take on the classic monster.
A Fresh Cast for an Ancient Evil
Jack Reynor (Midsommar) and Laia Costa (The Wheel of Time) also star in The Mummy, slated to open in theaters in 2026, via Warner Bros.
The cast also includes May Calamawy (Moon Knight), Veronica Falcón (Ozark), and May Elghety (Clash). Natalie Grace (1923), Shylo Molina (The Afterparty), and Billie Roy (Spirit Halloween: The Movie) round out the ensemble.
Cronin is not only directing but also penning the script himself. He’s reuniting with his Evil Dead Rise director of photography, David Garbett, so expect some stunning and unsettling visuals!
“Unlike Any Mummy Movie You Ever Laid Eyeballs On”
Details are being kept tightly under wraps. However, Cronin has dropped a tantalizing hint: “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.” Considering his track record with revitalizing horror properties, we’re intrigued!
This version of The Mummy marks a significant departure for the franchise in several ways. This is the first Mummy film not to be released by Universal Pictures. New Line Cinema is taking the reins this time. Production was a global affair, commencing in March 2025 and concluding in June, with filming locations spanning from Ireland to Spain.
A Powerful Partnership
This project is the very first under the recent Blumhouse-Atomic Monster merger, with both companies producing and co-financing for New Line Cinema. James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville are producing alongside Cronin, who’s also producing under his Doppelgängers banner.
Cronin’s last film, Evil Dead Rise, was a massive success, raking in over $150 million worldwide and proving his ability to breathe new life into beloved horror properties. That movie also ushered in a new direction for the Evil Dead franchise, with original creator Sam Raimi empowering other filmmakers to craft their own unique stories within the franchise.
With a promising cast, a proven director, and the combined might of Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, this new Mummy film sounds like it could be a truly terrifying addition to the classic monster’s legacy! Watch it when it arrives in theaters on April 17, 2026.
