Back in January, we reported that Robert Eggers’ next masterpiece, Werwulf, had been slated for a Christmas 2026 release date. Today, we have an update.
It’s beginning to look like a Nosferatu reunion. Variety reports that Aaron Taylor-Johnson will star. Lily-Rose Depp, who also starred in the vampire movie, has also joined the cast. Chris Columbus will return to produce.
Eggers will direct. He co-wrote the script for Werwulf with Sjón, who had previously collaborated with Eggers on his 2022 film, The Northman.
While the plot is still being kept secret, Werwulf is reportedly set in the 13th century and will feature dialogue in Old English. He’s reportedly given one detail, though, that has caught our attention. He has stated that the film is “…the darkest thing I’ve ever written.” If you’re a fan of his work, this is a chilling thought: after all, he delivered films such as Nosferatu, The Northman, The Lighthouse, and The Witch. Each filled with darkness. It’s what the brilliant director is known for.
Hopefully, more details will be released by Eggers soon for Werwulf. In the meantime, watch Nosferatu on Prime Video along with The Witch and The Lighthouse. You can watch The Northman now on Peacock.
