We’ve got big news for fans of Bret Easton Ellis and Ryan Murphy (“American Horror Story“)! The highly anticipated FX series adaptation of Ellis’s novel “The Shards” has officially been greenlit.
A Young Bret Easton Ellis & New Faces
Variety reports that three young actors have been added to the cast. Igby Rigney will play a young Bret Easton Ellis (pictured) in the series. In addition, Homer James Jigme Gere will take on the role of Robert, and Graham Campbell will play Thom. This new trio will star alongside the previously announced cast member, Kaia Gerber.
Obsession, Secrets, and a Serial Killer
In “The Shards,” 17-year-old Bret is a senior at the exclusive prep school when a new student arrives with a mysterious past. Robert Mallory is bright, handsome, and charismatic, yet he shields a secret from Bret and his friends, even as he becomes a part of their tightly knit circle. Bret’s obsession with Mallory is equaled only by his increasingly unsettling preoccupation with the Trawler, a serial killer on the loose who seems to be drawing ever closer to Bret and his friends, taunting them — and Bret in particular — with grotesque threats and horrific, sharply local acts of violence. The coincidences are uncanny, but they are also filtered through the imagination of a teenager whose gifts for constructing narrative from the filaments of his own life are about to make him one of the most explosive literary sensations of his generation.”
The Creative Team Behind the Series
Max Winkler will direct and executive produce the series. Ryan Murphy is executive producing via Ryan Murphy Productions. Bret Easton Ellis is also on board as an executive producer, alongside Nick Hall, Kathleen McCaffrey, and Brian Young. 20th Century TV will produce the series, which is part of their overall deal with Murphy.
